Dick Cavett, Phone Flirt

Dick Cavett writes an interesting column over at the New York Times about his telephonic friendship with Marlene during the 80s.

  1. Dietrich never did Cavett's talk show, did she? Too bad! He snagged many of Dietrich's peers: Mae West, Bette Davis (my favorite!), and Katharine Hepburn. Oh, and after reading that bit in the Cavett article about a journalist not knowing the word "profound," no wonder Dietrich didn't grant many interviews. What philistines! In fact, I'm reminded of the recent Madonna interview in which Cynthia McFadden didn't know the meaning of "reductive."
