When the day comes that MD and her fans no longer astound me, I will probably drop dead! Thank you for sharing this! The way that MD's voice modulates reminds me of her singing--restrained yet so richly emotive. Plus, she carries this entire play; the other actors are like backup singers. When will you surprise us next by pulling "The Mirror" out of your sleeve?;)
Joseph, glad you enjoyed it! Agree about the comparison to her singing. I find these later shows so different in approach to the ones from the 40s and 50s.
I have not heard this for years,and remember when it was first broadcast.I recorded it on an old reel to reel recorder,with the mic stuck in front of the tv set.Just also listened to the podcast(whatever that is)and found it extremely amusing,being a certain age.I found the guys comment about taking the photo to be signed very funny.I used to haunt the Cinema Bookshop he mentioned.When MD was at Wimbledon I took along the Charles Silver book I had bought that day in Foyles.When I handed to Marlene she asked where I got it,and could she keep it?What could I say and handed it over.I bought another copy and left it at the stage door which she signed "With thanks".When I moved several years ago it accidently got sold along with other books.I know who eventualy bought it,and it has gone to a good home.Also lost with the book was a letter from MD tucked inside it.Thats life.Paul
