She's in the Air

There's been some talk about Marlene on the airwaves recently:

  • Peter Riva recalled Marlene's death  for the BBC's programme, Witness (and shared other memories of his glamorous granny, too).
  • Burt Bacharach, whose autobiography will be released soon, remembers working with Marlene early in his career.
  • Marlene Dietrich Collection Berlin's Werner Sudendorf talks about the collection in this German interview.

  1. I'd be curious to know whether Peter has any plans to chronicle Marlene's life in some larger form. It seems that Maria has handed him the torch of Dietrich biographer, and he's been quite engaging in interviews like this.

Could someone transcribe or translate the Sudendorf interview?

  2. Finally, I listened to that Bacharach interview. Never did I believe that there was serious potential for a romance between Marlene and Burt, but that's what I gathered. I've ordered Burt's book, which has already been released in the U.S., and will report my findings here after I read it.

    1. Joseph, looking forward to your review!

Agree that Peter is a good storyteller, however I wish someone would collect some of Marlene's correspondence (especially since her autobiography isn't all that biographical!)
