Profiles in History is auctioning a costume design sketch for an ensemble by Vera West, for Marlene to wear in Seven Sinners (1940), at their upcoming Hollywood Auction #44 on 14 and 15 May. Further info at their website.
What a charming ensemble, but I can see why Irene ultimately got the costume design gig. Aside from harking back to Dietrich's Morocco tux with the sailor's uniform, that blouse with the square-cut appliqué (is that the right term?) stands out as an unexpected take on a classic silhouette. It could have been polka dots, but Irene went with squares!
